Hip Hop Artist Deveondi Responds to Professional Football Players About Kneeling During the National Anthem

Yesterday one particular professional football quarterback, tweeted a video stating he would never agree with anyone disrespecting the flag of the United States of America. In the video he reminisced on the fact that both of his grandfathers honorably served this country during World War II in the Army and Marine Corp. He was sentimental when he spoke of standing with his hand over his heart during the singing of the national anthem and how in those moments he seemed to remember all who sacrificed in the military and the civil rights movement. He went on to ask, is everything right with our country right now?  He said, No, it’s not. We still have a long way to go… but what I think what you do by standing there and showing respect to the flag with your hand over you heart shows unity. It shows that we are all in this together,  we can all do better, and that we are all part of the solution”.

In response to the video on this topic rapper Deveondi has this to say:

“The player in the video has every right to feel the way he feels about why he chooses to stand instead of kneeling during the singing of the national anthem.  I can respect his point of view based on his experience, but at the same time he and so many others need to respect the views and  experiences of so many others that may disagree with him.” Deveondi went on to say, “Instead of conformity there should be understanding. In my opinion throwing words around like “civil rights movement” is just a ploy to try and make it sound like a good idea to stop the protest and progress. Until caucasians walks a day in a brown person’s shoes in America, they will never totally understand the reasons that motivate kneeling during the national anthem.  He does not hear how that song sounds to us and I get that . However, it is important that we at least try to understand. Instead of focusing on the fact that people are going to kneel let’s focus on the actual solutions that will get everyone to stand again”.
