Are uninsured people more likely to be lifelong virgins? HealthyLifestyle.org just released the results of an extensive data analysis showing that when it comes to an abundant and consistent sex life, people with private insurance fare better than those without insurance or with public insurance.
HealthyLifestyle.org is an up-and-coming health information website that features data analyses and engaging articles on trending health topics. They cover a broad variety of topics, ranging from the viability of alternative medicine methodologies to the effect of Obamacare on individual insurance companies to uncovering scams in addiction recovery services.
The website does not shy away from controversial or political topics. Rather, it seeks to give a fair and balanced perspective on the most relevant healthcare issues facing Americans, empowering readers to make the best-informed healthcare decisions.
In keeping with their mission to offer engaging coverage of different aspects of health, the Healthy Lifestyle team recently released a comprehensive analysis comparing data from multiple peer-reviewed studies. It examined 314,661 men and women of different races, tracking whether people had had sex at all, had sex in the last five years, how frequently they had sex, and how many sexual partners they had, both in the past 30 days and year.
The results of the study showed that as compared to people with insurance, the uninsured were:
- More likely to have never had sex (lifelong virgins)
- Less likely to have had sex in the last five years
- Less likely to have a consistent sex partner
- Less likely to have had a sexual partner in the last 30 days
While the publically and privately insured tracked closely on a number of criteria, they differed in a few key areas. As compared to people with private insurance, those with public insurance reported being:
- More likely to have never have had sex
- Slightly less likely to have a partner in the last 30 days
- Slightly more likely to have frequent sex in the course of a week
Dave Cutter of Healthy Lifestyle said that with so much political emphasis on expanding health insurance to all Americans, this study shows that insurance coverage affects far more than just our care in a hospital or doctor’s office.
“Quality of life across the board is affected by access to high quality healthcare,” said Cutter. “This study makes clear that sex lives are affected by the presence or absence of good healthcare coverage, and I believe that this is just one important factor affected by this coverage.”
The study specified that correlation does not always equal causality, clarifying that good insurance is not necessarily the cause of an abundant sex life. However, it did establish a clear connection between the two factors.
