DoD Helping to Solve a Spouse Underemployment Problem
While a man is supporting his wife’s service to her country, he soon understands that his own career may have more ups and downs than he anticipated due to changing duty stations. Although it may feel like it, he isn’t alone. Nearly 200,000 male military spouses face this challenge worldwide.
The DoD found that spouse underemployment is a threat to both families and military readiness. To help the situation, Congress has funded a program, called MyCAA that pays a substantial amount toward an education for portable careers for military spouses. Portable careers are those that can be practiced virtually anywhere without undue interruption.
The Career a Macho Spouse Can Love
Many male military spouses find that many of the MyCAA qualifying programs at schools have a decidedly feminine slant. Most courses are geared toward careers in which men have no interest. The School of Firearms Technology at Sonoran Desert Institute offers men a career path that is eligible for MyCAA funding and that they are enthusiastic about.
The online courses available at the School of Firearms Technology include the basic Gunsmithing Certificate, the Advanced Gunsmithing Certificate, the Ballistics and Reloading Certificate, the AR-15 Advanced Armorer’s Course, and even an Associate of Science in Firearms Technology degree.
The Firearms Training 90 years in the Making
The School of Firearms Technology was founded in 1921 by a WWI Field Artillery officer. No institution for firearms building and maintenance matches this experience. The school is accredited by the Arizona State Board for Private Postsecondary Education and the Distance Education Accrediting Commission.
Students can be confident that they will receive the best and most modern training at Sonoran Desert Institute.
