Life can present remarkable shifts and changes, but ultimately how a person chooses to respond to these challenges is what matters most. Gary Sahlin is a remarkable example of this idea manifested. After a typical childhood and stint in the Navy, Gary fulfilled his dream of being a police officer devoted to serving the law. Some twists and turns later, and almost unbelievably he finds himself convicted of a bank robbery, and given two decades in prison. Taking that as a call to get his life back in order, he worked hard to make it out of prison and serve as a role model and counselor for others who may be coming close to making the same mistakes. In exciting news, Gary tells all in his new book, “Good Cop, Bad Criminal: Becoming a Cop, a Criminal and Life on Both Sides of the Law”, available on Amazon.com in both a paperback and a Kindle edition.
“When I entered federal prison, I knew it was a choice between depression or turning things around,” commented Gary about his new book. “Unlike many people who enter prison I was able to turn a negative situation into a positive one. I am glad I am now able to help others through my book and by talking to young people directly.”
Next up for the ex-cop, ex-criminal, ex-prisoner and current shining role model is bringing his story and experiences to schools and organizations as a public speaker. All signs point to this, like his work as an author, also becoming a quick and inspirational success.
