foodtweeks, a free app that combines weight management with feeding the hungry, today announced that the San Antonio Food Bank in San Antonio, TX has joined the ranks of foodtweeks-affiliated food banks.

This partnership will benefit the community by meeting the needs of both those struggling financially to provide enough food and encouraging users who are weight-conscious to choose better options. Each time a foodtweeks user reports “tweeking” (trimming calories from their food), San AntonioFood Bank will receive donations from foodtweeks, enabling the food bank to distribute an equal number of nutritious calories to hungry families.

By encouraging the use of social media when saving calories, users are also advertising their support of the local food bank by sharing their activity and donations which come at no cost to the users. Posting a “tweek” on Facebook or Twitter doubles or triples each donation and if you look up your local food bank on the foodtweeks website, you will see that there are promotional codes to help double donations as well.

foodtweeks is changing weight management to reward the weight-conscious consumers by making them “heroes” who serve their communities by feeding the hungry. Cutting calories from their favorite foods in an easy, enjoyable way is productive for the users and their neighbors.

The San Antonio Food Bank is all about helping a low-income client eat well, so it is exciting for us to announce a partnership with foodtweeks,” says Eric Cooper, President & CEO of the Food Bank.“Helping people watch calories and portions, combined with a cool social media application, is a win-win for our San Antonio supporters.”

The foodtweeks unique approach to weight management does not restrict consumers by making them conform to a standard set of rules. Users simply tell the app what food they are thinking of buying, eating or preparing. The app instantly displays images of suggested “tweeks” that remove enough calories to make a positive difference – but not in a way that changes the taste or leaves users hungry.

foodtweeks maintains a crowdsourced picture database of more than 44,000 small changes that show users how to “tweek” everything from a particular brand of cheeseburger at a national restaurant chain to grocery store purchases, and homemade dishes of every kind. By using this app in any setting, users can support the San Antonio Food Bank, making giving back easier than ever before.

“foodtweeks is proud and excited to support San Antonio Food Bank,” said Elisa Shannon, foodtweeks Executive Vice President of Partnership Development. “San Antonio Food Bank is a highly committed and respected organization that provides outstanding service to food-insecure members of our community.”

foodtweeks is rapidly expanding its partner-base to food banks all across the nation, with more joining each week, said Ms. Shannon, herself a former food bank executive. Food banks that wish to affiliate with foodtweeks may contact Ms. Shannon by email at elisa@foodtweeks.com.

Jay Walker, the inventor of foodtweeks, is also the chairman of Patent Properties and curator of TEDMED, the health and medicine edition of the famous TED conference. A noted entrepreneur, Mr. Walker has founded three companies that serve more than 50 million customers. He is best known as the creator of Priceline, which brought a new level of value to the travel industry.
