If you are busy preparing for your skiing holidays and think you have covered everything, try not to forget the often overlooked importance of eating well during your trip. Holidays of whatever kind are obviously a time for relaxation, fun and enjoyment. However, letting your eating and drinking habits slide too much whilst you are away could lead to problems when you are out on the slopes.

Although the importance of it is often stressed in everyday life, making sure you eat a healthy and hearty breakfast is even more vital when you have a full day of skiing ahead of you. Those who are trying the activity for the first time will be particularly vulnerable to the high altitudes and challenging conditions that ski resorts can serve up, and it cannot be emphasised enough how essential filling yourself up before hitting the pistes really is.

Eating small, healthy snacks when out skiing would also be a good idea. Scientific research has proven that bite-sized treats decrease the likelihood of muscle damage taking place, as long as they include carbohydrate and protein. Be careful, though – snacks with more than 10 grams of protein are not advisable as they can be particularly slow to digest.

It is also important to make sure you keep hydrated on the mountains. Although high altitude resorts can offer unparalleled skiing opportunities, they also bring with them the risk of headaches and shortness of breath. The simple act of drinking water whilst you are on the slopes should ensure these problems disappear and don’t prevent you from making the most of your time away. Whilst on the topic of drink, don’t forget that excessive alcohol consumption can wipe out much of the progress you have already made with your diet!

When you have finished with your long day on the slopes, there is nothing better than relaxing in comfort with the friends and family who came with you. Whether you are looking at hotels, apartments or ski chalet holidays, booking your stay with Skiline gives you the chance to truly experience the skiing break of a lifetime.
