International probate genealogy firm, Finders, has today said that Alternative Business Structures (ABS’s) are ideally suited to the provision of wills and probate services. Under the Legal Services Act, new business models will be opened up to ensure consumers can access legal services of better value and quality. This will be particularly pertinent to the wills and probate sector where lay consumers come into contact with the law.

Writing in the New Law Journal, Daniel Curran – Managing Director of Finders – confirms that professional probate genealogists will have a vital role to play in the new business structures as their important services will underpin the work of solicitors. They can offer specialist expertise to compliment the services offered by ABSs to offer a comprehensive wills and probate service for consumers, which includes heir location, tracing next of kin, missing wills and document services and estate distribution. Professional probate genealogists, such as Finders, also specialise in identifying and tracing heirs, locating people who may be beneficiaries under a will or intestacy rules and are frequently instructed be solicitors, in addition to executors, administrators, trustees and beneficiaries.

Commenting, Daniel Curran, Managing Director of Finders, said:

“The changing legal landscape under the Legal Services Act 2007 represents a real opportunity for ABSs to bring wills and probate services ‘to the high street. Close co-operation between ABSs and professional probate genealogists will ensure ease of access to wills and probate service provision for consumers, and will see a widening in consumer choice.

“There are also considerable advantages for solicitors who, by working with professional probate genealogists, can avoid incurring unnecessary costs whilst reducing the risk of claims from overlooked beneficiaries”.
