On Sunday, August 14, 2022, EYES INC A NEW JERSEY NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION (EYES INC of NJ), along with their partners, Shop Her Closet of Bamberg, SC, the Family Health Center, and others, hosted the Banding Residents…Achieving Vaccine Empowerment (BRAVE) Back-to-School Booster Carnival. The event supported their efforts to increase community awareness and education on the importance of being vaccinated and boostered against COVID-19.
Supported by grant funds from HRSA, BRAVE is a multi-state initiative to educate underserved communities in seven counties in SC and four counties in NJ and encourage all eligible persons, including children, to be vaccinated. The event shed light on new variants of the virus and the cases of newly diagnosed persons.
The Back-to-School Booster Carnival was held in one of EYES INC of NJ’s target counties—Bamberg, SC. With a goal of 300 attendees, this first-time-in-40 years Carnival drew in crowds of parents, children, and young adults in excess of 450 residents. There were many games and activities, rides, food, and entertainment. Back-to-school swag and raffle items were donated by the CEO of EYES INC of NJ and Board Members, including a 55-inch television, laptop computers, Nintendo Switches, Xboxes, and Bluetooth speakers.
Student volunteers from Denmark Technical College and Voorhees University assisted with the festivities. Also in attendance was Dr. Suzette Brann, HRSA Program Officer overseeing the BRAVE initiative; Dr. Edwin Knox and Ms. Dalesa Mack-Grisby (EYES INC of NJ Board Members); Ms. Tamara Herring, Executive Director, Morris Center for Lowcountry Heritage; and Dr. Croix-Ronald Coppáge, CEO, EYES INC of NJ. Collectively, with BRAVE team members from SC and NJ, unbelievable support was provided for this Magnum Opus event to increase vaccination rates in the organization’s target communities.
“Our mission at EYES INC of NJ is to ‘Motivate…Empower…Educate for Success.’ And our philosophy is to lead and serve with ‘empathy, compassion, and understanding.’ We are about serving all members of our communities, especially the most vulnerable, to ensure they receive the proper education on COVID-19 and now the Monkeypox, as well as supportive services, which are much-needed. With our many partners in SC and NJ supporting our efforts, we look forward to continuing our work to serve,” said Dr. Croix-Ronald Coppáge, CEO of EYES INC of NJ.
