Intermountain Riverton Hospital, in partnership with TreeUtah, came together recently to plant an additional 25 trees as part of an ongoing effort to reduce water use and implement sustainable landscaping practices. The “Every Day is Earth Day” event marked the 200th tree planted on Intermountain Health properties in collaboration with TreeUtah.

Last year, Intermountain Riverton Hospital overhauled its landscaping by replacing 10 acres of turf grass and planting trees which is estimated to save more than nine million gallons of water annually. Many of Intermountain Health’s other hospitals and clinics have been involved in similar efforts, saving over 17.5 milion gallons annually.

“This newest planting project continues those sustainability efforts,” said Glen Garrick, Intermountain Health’s sustainability manager. “Along with reduced water use trees to help improve air quality while shade from them helps reduce nearby temperatures.”

Riverton community members joined the Every Day is Earth Day” event by planting trees and a “make-your-own succulent” station for residents to take home their own drought resistant plants.
