After several months of development and testing, the new 7.0.0 version of EspoCRM, an open-source customer relationship management system, is announced to be released in October 2021. The release will incorporate new product features, various enhancements, multiple improvements, and bug fixes. All of that will make the system more secure and help companies stay protected from unauthorized access.
It is expected that EspoCRM 7.0.0 will support SMS-based 2-factor authentication. This functionality will enable the administrators to configure the delivery of a one-time use code for two-step verification via SMS. Even though the upcoming version currently lacks the implementations for SMS providers, the tech-savvy users and developers will be able to create these implementations for specific providers manually. From the security perspective, the new feature significantly decreases the risks that someone can impersonate a user and gain access to their account in the CRM system.
Among the other enhancements of security features, it is also worth mentioning that regular users will be able to manage the followers of other users. Previously, only administrators could view and link/unlink followers from records. The new “Follower Management Permission” will be available in Roles. Granting this right to managers will allow them to manage the work of team members in a more efficient way.
In addition, the new version will provide the ability to define dynamic logic conditions that will make the field invalid and will not allow users to save the record. The functionality will improve data management by decreasing the number of human errors and preventing the creation of wrong and incorrect data.
Currently, the beta version can be downloaded from GitHub and tested by all EspoCRM users, developers, and trialists that wish to test-drive new features first. As testing and development of some new features are still in progress, the release may still undergo some changes to ensure that users will get the enhanced, stable version of EspoCRM 7.0.0.
