New York, NY (PRUnderground) June 26th, 2019
Fine Art Shippers, a global art logistics provider, had the pleasure of visiting the amazing Design Miami/ Basel 2019, a prestigious international exhibition dedicated to museum-quality contemporary and historical design, which was held during the Art Basel week, on June 11-16. There were many interesting and innovative designs presented by the world’s leading galleries and designers, including the mind-blowing installation of some of the recent works by Erez Nevi Pana, which was brought to Basel, Switzerland by the New York-based Friedman Benda Gallery.
Erez Nevi Pana (b. 1983) is a talented Israeli designer aimed at pushing veganism to the design industry. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Design from the Holon Institute of Technology (HIT) in Holon, Israel and his Master of Arts from the Design Academy Eindhoven in Eindhoven, The Netherlands where he studied salt recrystallization. Since then, Erez Nevi Pana has been working with different minerals and plants to create animal-free furniture and investigate phenomena through material experimentation.
For this year’s edition of Design Miami/ Basel, Erez Nevi Pana created for Friedman Benda Gallery several new pieces from his internationally acclaimed Bleached series. The art installation, titled Bleached II, was presented at Design Miami/ Basel’s Design at Large exhibition platform for large-scale works.
Bleached is a series of innovative design pieces that perfectly combine the organic with the ornate. It took Nevi Pana five years to investigate the material applications of salt and come up with a new way to transform minerals into unique, otherworldly architectural forms that can adorn any space. The designer submerged wooden structures, preliminarily encased in locally-sourced loofah, into the Dead Sea, allowing them to crystallize in the salty water. As a result, wooden structures took the form of coral formations, offering a new way to speak about design.
Bleached II was a great success at Design Miami/ Basel’s Design at Large, attracting the world’s attention to the possible positive outcome from humanity’s interference with nature. As a sustainable art shipping company, we were happy to meet Erez Nevi Pana at the show and get acquainted with his important work. It is also worth noting that Nevi Pana is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Art and Design Linz in Linz, Austria, researching the topic of vegan design, so we are sure to see new innovative designs by this amazing person in the near future.
Overall, Design Miami/ Basel 2019 was a memorable show, with numerous art and design pieces presented by top galleries and artists from around the world. We look forward to the next edition of this international fair, which will be held in Miami Beach, FL on December 4-8.
