Equity Residential is once again leading the multifamily industry in San Francisco by achieving LEED® for Homes Platinum certification for its newest apartment community, 855 Brannan in San Francisco’s Design District, announced Drew Sullins, Vice President, Development for Equity Residential.
Already recognized internationally for its commitment to sustainability by the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark, Equity Residential has again demonstrated its leadership role. 855 Brannan is now the largest multifamily community in all of San Francisco to achieve LEED For Homes Platinum status, the program’s highest rating, according to research conducted by Bright Green Strategies.
The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating system, development by the Green Building Council (USGBC), is the foremost program for buildings, homes and communities that are designed, constructed, maintained and operated for improved environmental and human health performance.
According to Mahesh Ramanujam, president and CEO, USGBC, “The work of innovative building projects such as 855 Brannan, is a fundamental driving force in transforming the way buildings are built, design and operated. Buildings that achieve LEED certification are lowering carbon emissions, creating a healthier environment and reducing operating costs while prioritizing sustainable practices. Because of corporations like Equity Residential, we are increasing the number of green buildings and getting closer to USGBC’s goal to outpace conventional buildings, while being environmentally and socially responsible and improving the quality of life for generations to come.”
855 Brannan, located in SOMA’s Design District, is comprised of 449 contemporary apartment homes, 37,000 square feet of open green space, highlighted by a grove of mature redwoods, and 16,000 square feet of neighborhood serving retail. The 383,000 square-foot development is located on 4.5 acres and features more than 1,000 photovoltaic solar panels satisfying approximately 89% of the community’s common area energy needs.
Designed by David Baker Architects, 855 Brannan’s landscape design is credited to CMG Landscape; contractor credit to Balfour Beatty Construction, and LEED verification credit to Bright Green Strategies.
