Educate and Empower Kids announced this morning the release of three new books, aimed at helping parents conduct discussions regarding sex, sexual health, and intimacy with their children. The three books are entitled 30 Days of Sex Talks, Empowering Your Child with Knowledge of Sexual Intimacy. Each book is broken up into specific age groups (3-7, 8-11, 12+) and provides simple topic starters and divers discussion questions for parents and guardians to start and layer difficult subject matter with their children.
The books are the first released by the nonprofit organization and focus on more than just the mechanical aspects of sexual relations. Topics ranging from healthy relationships, body image, media literacy, sexual identification, self-esteem and sex, pornography, and consent, to protecting from predators fill the books. Educate and Empower Kids suggests that the groundwork for comfortable sexual discussion must begin as early as age 3, where certain age appropriate discussions on anatomy and a positive venue for discussing sex can occur.
“With cell phones and tablets at the fingertips of so many young children, we can no longer wait for our kids to ask us about sex. We must begin those conversations and be the first, best source of information for our children,” said Dina Alexander, Board President of Educate and Empower Kids. “If you aren’t talking to your kids about sex, someone else is. And those other sources could simply be friends, but they could also be predators or the porn industry.”
Educate and Empower Kids was founded in March 2014 and since has been on a path of meteoric rise in the sexual health and pro-intimacy forums. This year the organization will participate in dozens of conferences across the country discussing parents’ roles in addressing sexual education within the home. With materials available on their website, they cover a wide range of topics including protecting, preparing, confronting and repairing children as they are exposed to oversexualized media.
Amanda Scott, Vice President for Educate and Empower Kids stated, “Sex is a beautiful consensual expression of intimacy between two people. Too often media distorts what real intimacy is, and then our children are given the wrong ideas as to how to express intimate feelings when they enter adulthood.” Headquartered in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Educate and Empower kids aims to encourage youth to develop a healthy sexuality through education, empowerment, communication and love.
