Ashis G. Banerjee, Ph.D, Assistant Professor of Industrial & Systems Engineering and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Washington was recently chosen as the Top Engineer of the Decade given by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP).
While inclusion with the International Association of Top Professionals is an honor in itself, only 1 Engineer is selected for this distinction. Dr. Banerjee is being recognized for this distinction for having over a decade of professional experience as an accomplished Engineer. He will receive this award at IAOTP’s Annual Awards Gala being held at the Plaza Hotel in New York City this December. Furthermore, Dr. Banerjee will also be honored for his 2020 selection as Top Engineer of the Year. Before beginning his career, Dr. Banerjee earned his Bachelor’s in Manufacturing Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in 2004, his Masters of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland.
As an expert in the field of Engineering, Dr. Banerjee has over a decade of professional experience. His ability to inspire trust, clarify purpose and align systems is what makes him such an extraordinary Engineer. He has demonstrated success not only as an Assistant Professor at the University of Washington but also as a Research Scientist. His success has been recognized with tenure at the University of Washington, where he will begin his appointment as an Associate Professor this September.
Dr. Banerjee’s notable prior roles include: Research Scientist in the Complex Systems Engineering Laboratory at General Electric Global Research; Research Scientist in the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at Massachusetts Institute of Technology; and Postdoctoral Associate in the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Throughout his career, Dr. Banerjee has received many awards, accolades and has been recognized worldwide for his expertise in Engineering. He received the Most Cited Paper Award from the Computer-Aided Design Journal in 2012, the Above and Beyond Silver Award from General Electric Global Research in 2013, and the Amazon Research Award in 2019 . He was nominated for the Big-on-Small Award at the International Conference on Manipulation, Automation and Robotics in 2019 and was also a finalist for the Best QSR Paper Award at the 2019 Annual INFORMS Conference. He has contributed to more than 50 articles in professional journals and conference proceedings. For 2018, he was selected as Top Engineer of the Year by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP). In 2019, he was featured in TIP (Top Industry Professional) Magazine. This year Dr. Banerjee is being considered for an exclusive broadcast on the Reuters building in Times Square, New York City.
In addition to his successful career, Dr. Banerjee is a sought-after scientist, researcher and educator who shares his visionary knowledge with colleagues and students alike. He was invited to present his work at the inaugural University of Southern California symposium on the “Futures of Robotics”, the 2011 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems anniversary workshop on “20 years of Microrobotics: progress, challenges, and future directions”, the Boeing Distinguished Researcher and Scholar Seminar, and the IISE Data Analytics and Information Systems Division Webinar in 2019. He is also a member of the IEEE, the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers, and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
