DMAX Foundation is here to help the community stay connected and have Conversations That Matter® in the face of social distancing and Covid-19. During this time of increased isolation and worry, and in keeping with our mission, instead of canceling our April 16th event, Self Esteem: Mind, Media and Mirrors we are producing it on a virtual platform.
During these challenging times, which are taxing everyone’s mental health and leading to increased feelings of anxiety and isolation, staying connected is more important than ever. DMAX Foundation invites us all to come together as a community, support each other, and to nurture our mental health and well-being with compassion and self-care. This virtual event will include a special presentation with Supermodel and Body Positivity Advocate EMME and special guests, all hosted online, with interactive capability during the Q & A.
Special guests include storyteller and Leadership Development expert Robyn Shumer of Janssen Research and Development; Johnson and Johnson’s Global Mental Health Ambassador Craig Kramer; DMAX Club Student Leaders; and local teen singer-songwriter Maxie Mandel, whose songs support causes such as autism and mental health. In addition, DMAX is proud to announce a special guest appearance by CBS 3’s Emmy Award-winning health reporter, Stephanie Stahl, who will be presenting a leadership award to Michelle Martin, of ViacomCBS, for her work as a mental health advocate. Each speaker will share their personal mental health story and providing tools to feel better about ourselves and our relationships.
VIP ticket holders will be invited to a bonus virtual event on April 23rd: “DMAX Students Speak”. DMAX Club leaders will share their own stories and talk about what DMAX Clubs are all about, from the inspiration to start them to the impact they’ve had on students and campuses, to the ever-increasing need during the spread of Covid-19.
Event sponsorship opportunities are available. Students can register for free in advance. This event is NASW approved for Continuing Education Credits. For additional information and tickets, visit: www.dmaxfoundation.org/events
DMAX addresses a significant unmet need on college campuses where those suffering from emotional concerns often can’t or don’t seek counseling services because of stigma, overcrowding, and lack of resources, often leading to tragic results. Research shows forty percent of college students with a mental health condition don’t talk about it or use college mental health services. DMAX Clubs encourage students to share with their peers what is going on for them, so they can help each other and realize that they are not alone in their struggles. When students break the silence about emotional struggles, they can help decrease the tragic results that too often occur when they keep their emotional pain to themselves.
