Dinosaur River Expeditions is the only locally-owned and operated whitewater river rafting company in Vernal, Utah. The company recently decorated a tree for the Trees for Charity auction and donated the proceeds (which totaled $1900) to the Tri-County Scholarship Program.
Dinosaur River Expeditions, which offers chartered river trips in Colorado and Utah, is located between Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area and Dinosaur National Monument. The company has a strong commitment to the community it serves and wanted to give back through the annual Trees for Charity auction gala at the Uintah Conference Center.
The November 24 event celebrated its 19th year with a record-breaking 450 tickets sold. Forty trees were auctioned off, and the event raised over $218,000. Proceeds benefited different causes, including scholarship programs, the local food pantry, children and adults battling cancer, and more.
The Dinosaur River Expeditions tree, named “Life’s a HOOT,” featured feathered owl ornaments, pinecones, and blue, gold, and silver embellishments. The money the tree raised will help send a local youth to the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) for participation in outdoor adventures in wilderness settings.
Tyler and Jennifer Callantine, who own Dinosaur River Expeditions, said that the scholarship allows them to share their passion for the outdoors with the next generation.
“Jennifer and I have spent much of our lives exploring this beautiful part of the west and navigating the Utah and Colorado Rivers,” said Tyler. “There’s a real strength and sense of identity that come with spending time outdoors exploring this beautiful world that we live in. We are excited to pass this on by allowing a student to take advantage of the NOLS program.”
Dinosaur River Expeditions takes guests on thrilling and picturesque river expeditions on the Yampa River as well as the Green River through the Gates of Lodore. They offer hassle-free, single or multi-day adventures, providing tasty meals, safety equipment, and transportation to and from departure sites.
Guests to the area can explore the nearby Flaming Gorge Reservoir, one of the West’s most popular reservoirs featuring fishing, boating, waterskiing, and other sports. They will also have easy access to Dinosaur National Monument, with over 1,500 dinosaur bones still encased in natural rock and rich Native American history.
