DesignRush, the design industry’s one-stop visual showcase for the best in contemporary, cutting edge, design elements, had the opportunity to interview Brooklyn-based HUGE inc.’s Art Director, John Andrew Spinnenweber. HUGE inc. is a digital marketing agency with an A-list roster of clients such as Google, Nike and Audi.

During the interview, Spinnenweber gave an inside look into his musings, everyday life, and some of his proudest projects.

“Skateboard culture. Complete disregard for design faux pas. Comedic one liners slapped on grungy imagery twisted up with a skewed perspective of something culturally relevant. Skateboard graphics are a big middle finger to the world of art, and it’s that transgressive attitude that got me into art direction,” said Spinnenweber when asked what inspired him to become a designer.

When asked about his design process, Spinnenweber said, “Hmm, I’ve never done it the same way twice. There is no system. No steps. Sure there are tricks you develop over time. For a detailed list of those, I’d go grab the book, Hey Whipple Squeeze This.”

As anyone in business or the creative world will say, you’re only as good as your last accomplishment. Spinnenweber told DesignRush, when asked about a project he was particularly proud of: “Be proud of every project you conceive or you collaborate on. Every project deserves the best possible idea that you and your team can think up. Your work is a representation of you. Own it from start to finish.”
