Fiedler & Associates is proud to introduce the PGx test, a simple DNA test covered by Medicare and most insurance that helps to eliminate trial and error prescribing, which results in over 125,000 deaths and 2 million hospitalizations each year due to Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs).

In an interview with the press, Certified Representative Mike Fiedler explained the advantages of this revolutionary test:

“The test is called the Pharmacogenetic, or PGx test.  It is an 8-year old science that alerts physicians in advance if there is a problem with a drug before prescribing it to a patient.  This is incredible news, particularly for polypharmacy patients – those who are on more than one medication.” According to Fiedler, patients need only to provide a sample of DNA to be tested which is quickly accomplished with a swab of the cheek.  This simple test helps prevent any possible interaction with current and future drugs and can save money and lives.

It’s common knowledge that the more medications a patient takes, the more likely the risk of an adverse reaction.  It’s estimated that the average Medicare patient takes between 5-8 medications per day, with some taking as many as 20. But most people are unaware of how pervasive the problem has become. The statistics are astounding:  every year over two million are hospitalized and over 125,000 people die, causing ADRs to rank as one of the top five deaths for Americans annually.

And, as Fiedler points out, all of this can be stopped with a simple test.

“This test is currently in regular practice at major research hospitals such as the Mayo Clinic and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  It’s fast and easy, and most importantly, the patient never receives a bill,” said Fiedler.

The test covers 300+ common medications including 90 FDA black box labeled drugs as well as drug-to-drug, drug-to-food, and drug-to-alcohol interactions.  It will help eliminate the need for guesswork in titrations or determining safe dosages.

The use of Pharmacogenetics is expected to grow at a rapid pace as healthcare providers learn the importance of determining a patient’s individual genetics before prescribing.

Individuals, hospitals, doctors, home health care agencies or anyone in the medical profession are invited to contact Mike Fiedler for further information.
