Door And Window Guard Systems (D.A.W.G.S), service provider of steel board up for windows and doors, recently announced their expansion into the Detroit market.

D.A.W.G.S. manufactures and rents attractive steel guards used to cover door and window openings on vacant buildings, providing security to property owners and neighborhoods from the many problems associated with leaving buildings vacant.  According to RealtyTrac’s May 2014 foreclosure statistics, one out of every 1484 homes in Detroit is in foreclosure. That number is much higher in certain zip codes, where on average one out of every 900 homes is in foreclosure.

A major concern in vacant properties is security. Especially in blighted and high-crime areas, vacant properties can attract vandals, arsonists, drug users, and squatters. DAWGS are specially designed and manufactured to cover any size window or door opening with vandalism-resistant steel. In areas of high crime, steel is considered a preferred alternative to traditional board up, as it is a proven deterrent to entering the property.

According to DAWGS VP of Engineering Jim Glass, “We’re excited to be expanding into Detroit for a number of reasons. First, we’re looking forward to providing worth to the market in terms of jobs and opportunities within our organization. Secondly, we know that our patented steel guards will provide Detroit with some much-needed peace of mind. Our products are in some of the roughest neighborhoods in the nation, and they’ve stood up to attempts at breaching them. As a business, we consider it not only part of our job to protect a property, but also the surrounding neighborhood. We look forward to the opportunity to provide the residents of Detroit with a needed service, and we’re excited to play a part in what we know will lead to the eventual restoration of Detroit.”
