The team at Mole Valley Farmers are used to welcoming thousands of farmers and other members of the rural community into their stores, but it is not every day that they can count the Prime Minister among their customers!
This is exactly what customers and staff experienced at MVF’s flagship store in South Molton on the morning of Wednesday 7th August, however, when David Cameron stopped off there on his way to the North Devon Show.
The manager of the site at Pathfields Business Park, Shaun Carter, confirmed that he and his colleagues had received no advance warning of the visit, during which Mr Cameron was apparently looking for a fleece, and told reporters: ‘If we’d have known he was coming we would have put a stand of local produce out and given a tour of the store, but I think the shop looked pretty good’.
After having a look around the clothing section, the PM spoke to and had photos taken with staff and members of the public before travelling on with his security team to the region’s popular annual agricultural fair, which this year was held at Umberleigh Barton Farm.
It’s clear from the Prime Minister’s appearance that the South West isn’t the only place where the Mole Valley Farmers name is known, and that the excellent reputation their high quality products enjoy is even appreciated at 10 Downing Street!
About Mole Valley Farmers
Mole Valley Farmers was started in 1960 by a small group of farmers around South Molton who were concerned by the discriminatory practices and the large margins being taken by many of their input suppliers. From the outset it was decided to treat all members equally, subject only to quantity allowance and that the Company would operate on the minimum margin to allow continuity and growth. Today it remains one of a few true co-operatives in the supply industry.
