Craftsmen Industries, Inc. has been designing and customizing trailers for clients since 1982. With all their various trade experts working under one roof, the Missouri-based company is uniquely equipped to manage time-sensitive projects for their clients, completing them in a shorter timeframe than many competitors could. Their recent redesign of three trailers for Hy-Vee completed in just two months will allow the company to provide emergency aid after natural disasters and provide medical services to communities in need.

Known as a leader in large format printing, Craftsmen Industries, Inc. started in trailer sales. Over the years, they have consistently expanded their services and their team to increase their ability to meet customers’ needs for a broader range of custom projects. Their 127,000 square foot facility in Saint Charles, MO, employs 170 people with specialties ranging from engineering and design to fabrication and printing. Each custom medical trailer they build is uniquely designed to meet the needs of the customer ordering it.

While designing and building custom trailers can be a lengthy process, this project required a faster turnaround than most. “When Hy-Vee approached us about supplying them with three custom trailers, we knew they weren’t preparing for an event six months down the road,” said Mark Steele, CEO and Co-Owner of Craftsmen. “There was already a need, and the response needed to happen as quickly as possible. In just two months, our team redesigned and customized existing trailers to fit the unique needs of Hy-Vee’s projects.”

The three custom trailers will travel nationwide, stopping first in the Midwest and Southeastern US as a part of the grocery retailer, Hy-Vee’s #HelpfulSmileStrong campaign.

  • Vaccination Trailer – A 32-foot gooseneck trailer equipped with a glass-paneled waiting area and four separate patient stations with privacy curtains can also be used as a mobile primary care facility.
  • Mobile Pharmacy – With two prescription vending windows, this 32-foot gooseneck trailer features the custom cabinetry, plumbing, and refrigeration necessary to store and dispense various medications safely.
  • Disaster Relief Mobile Command Center – This 53-foot single expandable trailer features interior and exterior workstations, as well as a private conference room and a kitchen area. The external extending mast makes it ideal for coordinating communication and relief operations after a natural disaster.

“In the short period of time since these trailers were completed, we have been privileged to watch as they have traveled to the Midwest and Southeast to help provide aid after particularly violent storms spawning tornadoes passed through the regions,” remarked Steele. ” Bringing together our specialities in customizing mobile medical units and trailer graphics, we were able to quickly produce three trailers that will serve our country well.”
