This new publication is designed to initiate communication at home, in the community, and in the workplace between those with and without hearing impairments. Specifically, Sign-N-Voice Xchange envisions this communication tool as a resource instrument for corporations and organizations to introduce and promote awareness and inclusivity of people with hearing differences.

Sign-N-Voice Xchange develops and delivers innovative technologies and wearables designed to make it easier for people with and without hearing impairment to effectively communicate.

Founder Makini Diaz, a hearing-impaired woman of color, was born in Trinidad. When doctors informed her family that young Makini was deaf, her family moved to New York City to seek the best education and medical care for her. She was enrolled in educational programs for the deaf, and Diaz further went on to attain a degree in Technology, Packaging Science, and Engineering from the National Institute for the Deaf. Now, she is committed to creating solutions for bridging communication gaps between hearing and hearing-loss communities.

‘Communication Bridge Between the Hearing and Hearing-Loss Communities: 52 Truths, Tools, and Techniques to Shrink the Gap’ has been created to empower corporations to cultivate a culture of inclusion and awareness of other individuals (employees as well as customers) employees with different hearing abilities AND as a “introduction tool” into the non-hearing world for individuals having a loved one with hearing loss.

“While many with different abilities who experiences hearing loss remain hidden in the workplace, I believe that by bringing them out into the open, both employees and employers can benefit from increased understanding and productivity,” said Makini Diaz, CEO of Sign-N-Voice Exchange.

‘Communication Bridge Between the Hearing and Hearing-Loss Communities: 52 Truths, Tools, and Techniques to Shrink the Gap’ includes educational information on hearing loss including causes of hearing loss and the quality-of-life concerns that come with hearing loss. “Improving interaction between the hearing and the hearing impaired brings immeasurable richness to the lives of both,” said Diaz.
