Houston-based Enterprise Paving has produced an infographic that compares concrete to asphalt in five different areas: cost, durability, maintenance, longevity and weather.

When planning a paving job, there are a variety of factors to consider when choosing between asphalt or concrete, such as use, location, climate and budget.

This new infographic is an easy and quick way to compare the two. The infographic can be viewed at https://ecpaving.com/infographics/asphalt-concrete.htm

Some highlights are that concrete has a longer lifespan and requires less maintenance over its lifetime. Asphalt requires more maintenance and doesn’t have quite as long a lifespan as concrete, but the repair costs of asphalt are significantly cheaper than that of concrete.

Concrete is more rigid, and in that respect, more durable. Asphalt, a softer material, can crack more easily and requires resealing every 2 – 5 years.

Aesthetically, asphalt maintains its appearance longer, simply because it is darker and therefore stains are not as visible. In contrast, stains on concrete are much more visible because of concrete’s lighter color.

Concrete is also better in warmer climates, whereas asphalt is better in cold climates.

More information is shared on the infographic.
