Barnard Crespi, Co-CEO of Datatel Inc, announced today that he would be participating in the annual Sleep Out Executive Edition organized by Covenant House Toronto in an effort to personally raise $25,000.00 for the homeless youth initiative through his personal “$25,000 Sleeping Bag” Campaign. The Sleep Out takes place on November 17th, 2022. The Executive Edition of Sleep Out is an international movement that happens on the same night at Covenant House sites across North America.   Sleep Out is more than a one-night event to build awareness—it is a powerful, immersive experience where participants have the opportunity to learn about the issues of homelessness and sex trafficking, hear from the youth helped by Covenant House, and be a part of the solution.

Together with a group of other likeminded individuals, Barnard will give up the comforts of home and spend the night sleeping outside in the cold hard ground, raising awareness for the approximately 6,000 homeless youth who experience homelessness every night.

Every day, youth across Canada struggle with homelessness and sex trafficking.

  • 20 per cent of Canada’s homeless population consists of young people between the ages of 13 and 24
  • As many as 40,000 young people in Canada experience homelessness every year
  • Over 50 per cent of homeless youth indicated that abuse at home contributed to their homelessness.

Armed with only a sleeping bag, the participants will develop an understanding of how it feels to live on the streets through the stories told by homeless youth and the coldness of the pavement.

As one of the leading advocates against youth homelessness, the money raised will help the Covenant House Toronto provide support to disadvantaged youths and combat homelessness.

“I believe that a society that short-changes its youngest and most vulnerable members is one that forfeits its own future. By providing for those in need we can help them overcome their challenges, resulting in a brighter future for all of us and for generations to come” said Barnard Crespi, Datatel’s Co-CEO.
