Celebrate Saint Sebastian in Mallorca

Each year on the wonderful villa holiday Island of Mallorca, the island’s capital Palma celebrates its patron ‘Saint Sebastian’ with a series of events and holidays for residents and visitors to enjoy.

Activities take place between the 16th and the 21st of January in Palma de Mallorca, consisting of everything from outdoor concerts to firework displays, but you can expect events to be taking place throughout January.

One of the first parts of the celebrations, which you could easily experience whilst staying in villas in Mallorca, will be on the 16th, when bonfires, barbecues and stages are set up throughout many of Mallorca’s towns and villages. Many people dress up as brightly coloured devils on this night (St Anthony’s eve) and flood the streets with plenty of song, dance and outdoor performances.

The night before Saint Sebastian’s Festival, Palma’s old town becomes a hub of entertainment with musical events taking place in its squares, bars and restaurant. Musical genres ranging from folk to jazz and pop can be enjoyed during the night; it’s certainly a lively and entertaining welcome to the weekend’s festivities.

On the 20th, you will find religious celebrations taking place all over Palma, as well as a range of events that includes bicycle parades through the city and its landmarks, the day is then followed and finished off by a huge firework display on the bay of Palma.

Combining your holiday with the Saint Sebastian festival is a great idea if you want to soak up as much Mallorcan culture and hospitality as possible during January.
