vHomeInsurance, a data-driven insurance research service, has published a new study containing the complete list of provisions of California Consumer Privacy Act and the role it will play in safeguarding the personal information of California residents. vHomeInsurance analyzed the bill to simplify the legal jargon and present it to consumers in an easy-to-follow infographic format.
California becomes the first state in the U.S. to pass a bill to regulate the collection of consumer data by companies. In the absence of any federal law, the collection of consumer sensitive information by tech firms and consumer reporting agencies has gone unchecked. The recent allegations against Amazon, Google, and Facebook called for strict measures to protect consumer rights. The study explains how CCPA empowers California residents to control the type of data collected and shared by companies via a simple infographic.
The study further talks about how the Act is expected to bring more transparency in the collection of data. The Act was passed into California law on June 28th of 2018, and came into effect from January 1st, 2020. Several other states are expected to follow suit and come up with state laws to reinforce consumer rights.
The study also lists the companies that are exempted from complying with the Privacy Act. Also, large tech companies like Microsoft, Facebook, and Twitter have already complied with the law by making necessary changes. Their website has a new feature that enables consumers to login and download the list of data types that have been collected. California residents can also contact the company and request a detailed explanation for data collection and why they being are shared with third party companies.
