With markets and manufacturing interrupted by COVID-19, Amazon is pushing its annual day of deep discounts known as Prime Day to September. However, Buy Box Experts urges merchants to act now to beat the July 10 promotion submission deadline and prepare their advertising strategies.

These deals allow sellers to offer promotional pricing on key products and get in on the crush of traffic for one of Amazon’s biggest shopping days.
Hansen is also urging merchants to start crafting their advertising strategies now for best results. “Advertising costs skyrocket on the days around Prime Day,” said Hansen. “Smart merchants will think of creative ways to start early and avoid some of those inflated advertising costs.”
Hansen also warned third-party sellers to develop alternate plans in the event that Amazon cancels their promotions at the last minute.
“Amazon uses this day primarily to sell their own equipment, and it can really backfire for third-party sellers,” said Hansen. “Last year, our Amazon advertising agency saw a lot of these sellers get Amazon approval for their Prime Day Lightning Deals, only to have Amazon cancel their promotions at the last minute.”
Hansen said that sellers can explore possibilities for taking advantage of other promotional opportunities that are available year-round in Seller Central should their deals get shut down.
“We hope this doesn’t happen again, but it’s helpful for sellers to know that this could be a reality and adjust their expectations and strategies accordingly,” said Hansen.
