Since 2004, the Sport Relief Mile has been giving people up and down the country the chance to show their support for one of the UK’s most popular charity events. This year, the London section of the mile may have two very special guests amongst its number.
It has been revealed by sources close to the royal couple, whose marriage last year was the nation’s most watched television event, that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge should be in line to join the charity mile and run down the Mall. The event, taking place at the climax of the biennial Sport Relief weekend on Sunday 25th March, is expected to be marked by many other cities around the country at the same time.
Perhaps even more intriguing is another Sport Relief mile preceding the main celebrations on March 14th. On this day, over 100 MPs will run through St James’s Park in what is known as the Westminster Mile. Starting just after the conclusion of Prime Minister’s Questions, this unusual event – which was also competed at the last Sport Relief in 2010 – has apparently secured the participation of David Cameron himself.
The Mile, sponsored by Sainsbury’s, is one of many initiatives taking place in March in aid of Sport Relief (created by Comic Relief), which was started in 2002. The nationwide event was set up to both encourage members of the public to enjoy more active lifestyles, as well as offering help to poverty-stricken people in this country and overseas.
Places are still available in the 2012 London Mile, so why not sign up and stay at a B&B in London to enjoy a truly unique experience during your trip to the capital? Whether you want to take part or just watch from the sidelines, booking accommodation with the LSE will be a great value and comfortable way to enjoy this fantastic occasion.
