Los Angeles, CA (PRUnderground) October 19th, 2022
Black Girl Film School (BGFS) is proud to announce the launch of its partnership with SMUGGLER for a brand new course offering, Film Foundations II: Crafting the Treatment. Students enrolled in this course will focus on a single project over a six-week period, expanding on materials developed in Film Foundations I. The course offering is considered a Master Class for advanced filmmakers in the program to develop a narrative treatment to attract funding, creative collaborators and to formulate a plan to produce the project. The top performing filmmaker will be selected and matched for mentorship with Smuggler, a producer, and agency that represents the top directing talent in feature films, music videos, and commercials.
“Our aim is to provide our budding Black Girl Film School filmmakers direct exposure to the industry to spark creative connections mimicking real-world collaborations, and our partnership with Smuggler is absolutely pivotal in achieving this,” said BGFS Founder Jayda Imanlihen. As part of the mentorship, the selected student will receive notes on their treatment from an Executive Producer as well as directors represented by Smuggler.
The course will be taught by award-winning filmmaker Sean A. Addo, who received his MFA in production at the University of Southern California, School of Cinematic Arts. His credits include “Deeper Than Black,” and “Rooted,” as well as “Inquisitor,” for which he served as director of photography.
Running from October 12 to November 30, the course will be delivered online with synchronous live sessions on Wednesdays from 4 pm to 5 pm PST. An exclusive group of the top twelve BGFS filmmakers were selected for Foundations II. By the end of the course, students will develop and deliver a polished 3-5 page treatment using the industry standard format for an original film project.
BGFS students are part of a robust, inclusive learning community with the goal of elevating skills and professional training. Fostering an environment of thoughtful collaboration and research, students are taught the necessary skills that include craft as well as the business of filmmaking.
