Award-winning film director and writer Kevin Ruiz is announcing the release of his first feature film, a Freudian Thriller, “S’ids Lake,” available on Amazon Prime and Tubi. The suspense Kristian Pierce, David Solesbee, and Tom McLaren.
Kevin Ruiz describes the movie as a story that questions how the human brain perceives things. “Following the murder of a teenage girl,” Ruiz says, “a troubled young man relies on a confident alter ego to shield him from the horrific realities of his life.”
Ruiz says S’ids Lake was filmed in 6 days on a $25K budget. The film deals extensively with psychology, in addition to touching on concepts of faith and God. One reviewer writes, “The substance in this indie film full of style is the concept of perception that pervades from the opening voice-over narration to the insightful amusing quote in the end credits.”
Although S’ids Lake is Ruiz’s first feature film, he’s produced a series of award-winning shorts during his career. His first short, The Problem with Evolution (2017), won five awards, including best comedy at the LA Cinfest festival. Ruiz went on to write and direct a total of 21 film shorts, ranging from comedy (Millennialitis, The Story Topper, Grammar Nazi), drama (Deathproof, The Patriot), and sci-fi (Human Report 85616).
Regardless of the genre, what all of Ruiz’s films have in common is the theme of psychology. “All of my movies poke fun at something humans do, put a character into a thought-provoking situation, or give someone a chance to speak for the human race,” Ruiz says, “and all the films prompt the audience to really think.”
Ruiz launched his film career at the age of 40, after resigning from 15 years in the teaching profession, as well as working with people with mental disabilities for five years.
