At 3-year Anniversary, Arizona’s Thriving Torch Cigar Bar Proves Critics Wrong

A Phoenix cigar lounge was not expected to succeed, but it is going strong three years later with a large clientele and a dedication to community service.

When Jon and Kelly Harrington decided to start a cigar lounge in Phoenix a few years ago, they knew they were taking a major risk. Everyone in the industry seemed to advise against it, but today, those risks are paying off as Torch Cigar Bar celebrates three years of growth and success.
Torch is a bustling cigar lounge in the Valley of the Sun that boasts a huge selection of cigars and spirits, posh décor, and one of the largest outdoor luxury patios of its kind in the state. Guests can unwind in the High Street cigar bar after work, host a mid-day business meeting, or enjoy a romantic evening with a date.
The bar offers 200 premium cigars stored in a state-of-the-art humidor, 200 total spirits, 100 whiskeys, and 8 taps. They also offer membership packages that come with a personalized premium Spanish cedar locker, free Wi-Fi, gourmet food delivery options, and first access to VIP events
Jon Harrington describes himself as a “serial entrepreneur” who had good vibes about starting a cigar bar on High Street in Phoenix. But the naysayers seemed to line up just as soon as he began laying the foundation for the bar.
“Pretty much everyone had it pegged for failure…the cigar reps, liquor reps, the general public. They said we didn’t know the business well enough,” said Harrington. “Kelly and I had a lot of vision for this project, though, and we knew that we could pull it off with enough hard work.”
Harrington is having the last laugh as he marks the third anniversary of Torch, which is widely considered to be the gold standard in the industry in the Phoenix metro area.
Harrington said that while he is very pleased with the cigar shop sales and membership numbers, which far exceeded even his optimistic expectations, he is most proud of the humanitarian projects that the bar has helped make possible.
Torch has teamed up with NFL and MLB players and hosted celebrity events and auctions to benefit the Phoenix Boys & Girls Club and Richie Incognito’s Foundation. Torch has also contributed to Cigars for Warriors and raised money to support the Phoenix PD, the American Legion, and a global rescue project that safely removes children worldwide from slavery.
“Kelly and I wanted to open this lounge to help people enjoy life,” said Harrington. “We feel like we’ve been able to that, not only with our patrons but also through community service,” said Harrington.
