Associated Crafts® & Willet Hauser Architectural Glass®, Inc. announced today the recent recruitment of experienced stained glass innovator, Robert Lennox. Bringing 40 years of experience in the field of stained glass with him, Lennox is serving as the Conservation Department Manager and Training Lead.
Before entering the world of stained glass, he received a Bachelor’s Degree from The School of Visual Arts in NYC. His professional experience with the craft first began as an apprentice in 1975. Knowing from that experience he had found his career path, he found himself fabricating and installing windows at the National Cathedral.
The recognizable commissions of key historic treasures expanded from there to include restorations that were installed at the American Wing of the Metropolitan Museum in Manhattan and work with The Rambusch Decorating Co. allowed him to learn restoration techniques from the world-renowned glass painter, Albinus Elskus.
These experiences led to establishing his own studio specializing in restorations and conservation work. Stained Glass Imagery was honored with a ten year restoration project of windows designed by Richard Upjohn, architect, at his historic Trinity Church, Wall Street, Manhatten; re-leading the dome ceiling at The US Patent building, now part of the Smithsonian Institute; and restoring a two story Gothic Rose window attributed to Louis Comfort Tiffany at St. James AME Church, in Newark, NJ, among other notable projects.
Lennox has a deep appreciation and knowledge for the great conservation techniques of stained glass. He has taken that knowledge to the next level by becoming an expert in protecting stained glass windows from hurricanes, using a proprietary patented process. As he explains, “I have a dedicated process for how to bring a piece back to its original grandeur.” In addition to his 40 years of conservation experience, Lennox has spent many of them also dedicated to training new generations on these processes.
A close look at his work process and unique methodology was recently featured in The Courier https://thecourier.com/life/life-extra/2018/09/29/glass-guru-takes-great-panes-at-findlay-church/
Bob is a proud husband of Tammy and father of Ellie. He enjoys boating in his spare time.
