American Pole and Timber Announces Second $500 Scholarship Essay Competition

American Pole and Timber holds an essay competition in which $500 will be awarded to two winning students each Fall and Spring semester.

American Pole and Timber, a manufacturer and supplier of large structural timber products, launched a scholarship program in which college students are invited to write an essay on a given topic (one topic each semester) related to timber products and/or timber construction, in the Spring 2015. Two $500 scholarships were awarded. APT announced the Fall 2015 scholarship just this week.
About the Essay and Competition
The topic for this semester’s essay is:
What single invention or new technology during the past 100 years has made the most significant positive impact on the practicality of wood as a structural building material relative to other materials options?
The winners – 2 each semester – will be selected based upon:
· Originality of the idea(s) presented
· Reality of the idea(s)
· Overall presentation of the idea(s)
There are no restrictions on the length of the essays. Drawings or graphics are not required, although they would likely contribute to the quality of the overall presentation.
Accepting All College or University Students
The scholarship competition is open to students from any major or field of study. Eric Lincoln, Sales Manager at American Pole and Timber in Houston, TX, said, “We first planned to offer this only to students in construction and design fields, and they are probably they only ones who will enter, but we like the idea of leaving it open to everyone to see what kinds of ideas we get. We’re pretty excited to see what these young people submit.”
The only requirements to enter the scholarship competition are:
· Students must be enrolled in an accredited college or university
· Students must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours during the semester in which they submit their entry
