Ahmed Nashaat will be joining hundreds of other attendees this September 29th, 2016 at The Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows located at 101 Wilshire Boulevard, Santa Monica for the Los Angeles Waterkeepers’ Making Waves event.

Making Waves is an annual event that is held to raise funds for the LA Waterkeepers’ mission to protect Los Angeles’ waterways. The event also honors the region’s water leaders who have and continue to spearhead water conservation efforts. The LA Waterkeepers aim to protect waters and the environment through long-term and sustainable measures.

This year the event’s theme is ‘Transformation’ with the same program consisting of cocktails, live music, and a silent auction. Last year, over 350 guests attended the Making Waves summer gala also at The Fairmont, raising a total of $300,000 to fund its mission.

“I believe in the Los Angeles Waterkeepers advocacy to protect and restore waterways like Santa Monica Bay and San Pedro Bay,” Ahmed Nashaat said. “I’m hopeful the event will be able to raise more funds, if not the same, this year.”

The LA Waterkeepers have been holding the Making Waves annual benefit for over twenty years now. The organization celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2013 where the event honored the Founder’s Circle, including Richard Baskin, Dam Emmett, Jordan Kaplan, Gil Segel, Terry Tamminen, and Frank & Luanne Wells—key figures that helped shape the transformation taking place in the region’s water management and protection initiatives.

“This fundraising event is just one of many events the LA Waterkeepers hold,” Ahmed Nashaat shared. “They also do beach clean-ups and area surveying and monitoring. Their litigation and regulatory programs are also very successful.”

The litigation team of the LA Waterkeepers has previously brought to court auto dismantling yards in southern Los Angeles and companies engaged in industrial scrap metal recycling. In effect, their legal victories have brought about significant reduction in the sanitary sewer overflows. To this day, the LA Waterkeepers continue to monitor these settlements to ensure these erring companies’ strict compliance to the law.

Ticket prices for the Making Waves benefit this year starts at $150 up to $20,000. Event activities will commence at 6:30 PM and end at 9:00 PM. It will be held outdoors so guests are advised to dress accordingly. The dress code is cocktail or business attire.

Valet parking will be available at the entrance of the Fairmont on Ocean Avenue for $15 per vehicle. Sponsors of the event will also receive complimentary valet parking.
