A classically trained violin virtuoso has landed on the #1 video on YouTube today–playing hip-hop.

Christine Wu is the electric violinist in Billy Ray Cyrus’ “Achy Breaky Heart” re-mix with rapper Buck 22.

Formerly tenured with the Houston Symphony Orchestra, Wu came to Los Angeles to roll her dice at the Hollywood recording industry.

Today she is solo violinist, arranger, and composer for industry legends such as David Foster, Andrea Bocelli, and Keith Urban, and TV shows such as The Voice, American Idol, America’s Got Talent, Dancing with the Stars.

Part of the reason for her success is her ability to adapt the violin to a broad range of musical genres.

Before recording the hip-hop version of Achy Breaky, Wu morphed into “hoedown” mode performing the original with Cyrus at Muhammad Ali’s Celebrity Fight Night and the Arsenio Hall Show.

Her violin is a 1782 Gragani.

“There’s not really a road map for taking these instruments that are from the 1600′s maybe, and putting them in a modern context,” says Wu. “And that’s what really my goal is with everything I do, is to bring this art music into a modern context that can be understood and digested by modern ears. I don’t want to force Mozart down people’s throat if that’s not what they want to hear. I want them to have an experience with music.”

Christine can be seen with Billy Ray Cyrus and Buck 22 on Chelsea Lately on E!, Thursday, February 13, 2014 at 11 pm/10 pm c.
