Carrentals.co.uk, the website which helps UK motorists to source and compare cheap car hire from over 50 of the sector’s leading suppliers – has issued a warning to drivers this week. The award-winning website has told UK drivers not to keep details of licence points from insurers or they could end up in breach of the law or paying hefty fines.
Though UK car insurance companies seem to be charging more than ever for policies these days some motorists still think they can save by holding back details of points on licences from insurance companies. This does however mean that they can be breaking the law by hot keeping their insurer fully appraised of their driving status.
Carrentals.co.uk is warning drivers that not reporting accidents or points on their licence can find their insurer not paying out on incidents. They can therefore find that they are not covered, their policy is void and they are driving uninsured – thereby breaking the law.
Gareth Robinson, Managing Director of Carrentals.co.uk, says: “Drivers throughout the country need to be aware that while policies are expensive, looking to cut costs by keeping details back from insurers is not a sensible way forward.”
“Drivers who don’t keep insurers up to speed can find themselves with a void policy and driving without insurance. This in turn leaves them open to expensive extraneous costs like legal bills, medical expenses, damage to third party vehicles and so on – which can end up being much more expensive than the fee they would have had to pay out for a correct, points-included policy in the beginning.”
