Peter C. Alderman Foundation (PCAF) and Fusion PPT Partner to develop an electronic medical tablet
Industry: Business
Vienna, VA (PRUnderground) May 13th, 2015
Fusion PPT, a recognized strategy and technology consulting firm, announced today that they are collaborating with the Peter C. Alderman Foundation (PCAF) to design an electronic medical tablet system that will help the PCAF staff providing maternal mental healthcare for childbreaing women in Uganda. Fusion PPT will design an overall electronic tablet solution that will enable PCAF healthcare teams to provide higher quality care in remote locations to Ugandan women during and after pregnancy.
Maternal mental disorders are common and disabling in women living in developing countries. They can in turn deeply impact children’s growth and development. So in an attempt to assist women, PCAF has established a multi-disciplinary mental health team in northern Uganda that provides mental health and psycho-social services for women in pregnancy and through the first two years of a child’s life. However, PCAF performed a survey that concluded that Ugandans often lack the finances to fully utilize these services in clinics. To combat this issue, PCAF set up mobile therapy services, greatly expanding Ugandan access to the mental health services that they provide.
Fusion PPT will design an electronic health tablet using commercial hardware and existing electronic medical record software. Building on Fusion PPT’s experience with technology solution design, Fusion PPT is focused on meeting the specific requirements of the PCAF but also developing a solution that could be used by other non-governmental-organizations in similar environments.
“Acess to a reliable power grid and constant Internet acess are not commonplace in many parts of the world, including Uganda. The use of technology in the right way can reduce the amdinistration budren of data entry, while not creating barriers between health providers and patients,” comments Fusion PPT CEO Michael Biddick. “This is the goal of our solution design.”
“We are excited to be working with Fusion on this project,” noted Steve Alderman, Co-Founder, Peter C. Alderman Foundation. “Together, we are going to create a solution that provides much-needed mental health care to thousands of women who currently can’t access it.”
About the Peter C. Alderman Foundation
The Peter C. Alderman Foundation (PCAF) was established in 2003 to help some of the world’s most vulnerable populations recover from the emotional wounds of war, terrorism, torture and mass violence. PCAF was created as a living memorial for Peter Alderman, a 25-year-old American who was killed by terrorists in the attacks at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. In the past ten years, PCAF has grown to become a recognized leader in providing evidence-based mental health and psycosocial supports that restore function in survivors and communities impacted by trauma. It is the only United States-based global non-governmental-organization focused exclusively on providing clinic and community-based mental health care and capacity building in post-confluct countries.
