Children’s Entertainer, Erica Carlson, Announces the Release of Her First Book, Sedgie the Hedgie Finds the Treasure

Local children's entertainer, Erica Carlson, uses her magical hedgehog sidekick and adorable pup to inspire her first children's book.

Today, Erica Carlson, CEO of Erica Entertainment, announced the release of her new book, Sedgie the Hedgie Finds the Treasure. Published by Gateway Press, the book was written for children Pre-K through fifth grade. The book was inspired by Erica’s popular pirate-themed magic show, and includes messages about teamwork, courage, and enjoying simple treasures. Like the magic show, the book features Erica’s hedgehog, Sedgie the Hedgie, and adds in Erica’s family dog, Clover, a Whoodle – a Wheaton Terrier and Standard Poodle mix.
“After meeting so many kids over the years at school and library visits, I’m thrilled to share Sedgie the Hedgie in this book,” said Erica. “Kids love seeing and petting him in person at local events and now they get to take him home, by virtue of having him in a book!”
To write the book, Erica tapped into her experience as a language arts teacher and 20 years of entertaining children where she encourages them to make connections when reading and find their spark to write. She also hired Columbus-based illustrator Drew Dittmar to illustrate the book.

Erica Carlson is a children’s entertainer who has written over ten magic and storytelling shows that she performs with her live, magical sidekick, Sedgie the Hedgie. She earned her Master of Education at The Ohio State University and for over twenty years, Erica has combined her experience as a language arts teacher with entertainment to encourage children to make connections when reading and to find their spark to write.
