2. Easter Bunny Express – Colebrookdale Railroad

Available till April 17th, 2022

The best way to make Easter memories that will last a lifetime is to join Peter Cottontail aboard the Colebrookdale Railroad! Visit with the Easter Bunny outside on our open car while the children search for Easter eggs. Children will enjoy a complimentary Easter themed coloring book and 10 pre filled Easter eggs.

3. Philadelphia St. Patrick’s Day Parade 2022

Philadelphia’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade is a long-standing event of great civic pride. The Annual Parade is held on the Sunday before St. Patrick’s Day. 11:00 am Start @ 16th & JFK Blvd, Phila, PA 19103 Parade route goes around North Side of City Hall, down Market St to 6th & Market St., TV coverage on The CW Philly 57, 12 Noon to 3pm. 4. Healthy Kids Running Series Spring 2022 – West Philadelphia, PA

Available till April 30th, 2022

Healthy Kids Running Series is a five (5) week running program in the spring and fall for kids Pre-K through high school. Each HKRS Series takes place once a week and offers age appropriate running events including the 50 & 75 yard dashes, the 1/4 mile, the 1/2 mile, the 1 mile, and the 2 mile run. Kids compete each week for a chance to earn points. At the end of the Series the boys and girls who accumulate the most points in their respective distances are awarded trophies. All participants receive a medal on Week 5!

5. The Holiday Festival at Franklin Square 

Available through February 27, 2022

The Electrical Spectacle Light Show sponsored by PECO makes Franklin Square glow throughout winter. Citizens present a wide range of free shows, including over 150,000 lights that stun onlookers until February 27, 2022. On Fridays and Saturdays, the show runs for every 30 minutes from 5 to 9 p.m., with extra presentations until 10 p.m.

Additionally, Franklin’s Winter View serves local beers, hot drinks, and various comfort foods. They are all accessible throughout the Christmas display. There is also an indoor heated tent and outdoor fire pits to keep you entertained throughout the night. Visitors may also enjoy mini-golf on the Chilly Philly Mini Golf course. They can also ride the holiday-themed Parx Liberty Carousel, complete with festive music.

6. AAMP Family Fun Days

Available through May 14th, 2022

On the second Saturday of every month, gather up the youth in your life and bring them to the museum for an assortment of hands-on activities, interactive music and movement workshops, storytellers, historical re-enactors, and more! A Family Fun Day may focus on a particular theme, or may simply celebrate the breadth and depth of the African Diaspora. Visit our calendar for details of upcoming days.

7. Appreciate LumiNature at the Philadelphia Zoo 

Available till January 9, 2022

LumiNature returns after a year off to change the Philadelphia Zoo into a nighttime winter wonderland. It takes up the entire zoo’s landscape. The event includes more than 200 illuminated penguins, different kinds of 500 colorful brightly lit flamingos, a 21-foot long colored snake, and a 25-foot-tall flamingo Christmas tree, among other attractions. Take note that you must buy tickets for scheduled events ahead of time.

8. Christmas at Longwood Gardens 

Available through January 9, 2022

Another must-visit winter wonderland Christmas event is at Longwood Gardens, almost an hour away from Apex Manayunk. The world-famous Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square transforms into a winter wonderland for the popular A Longwood Christmas event. They will be available at the venue, from hung icicles in the Exhibition Hall, a waterfall, to a crystal blue alpine stream with snowed trees.

Likewise, visitors can expect a 22-foot-tall Fraser fir dressed in flame lamps and gold, amber, and red decorations in the East Conservatory, showing the contradiction between fire and ice. There will also be 500,000 lights in the trees, a 200-foot light tunnel, fire pit flames moving to the festive music, and a stunning fountain outside. Take note that you must buy the tickets ahead of time. So, make the necessary plans if you plan to attend!

9. Visit Morris Arboretum’s Holiday Garden Railway 

Available at select dates till January 2, 2022

The Christmas Holiday Garden Railway transforms Northwest Philly’s historic Morris Arboretum into a mini-winter paradise. It consists of a quarter-mile track for model trains to chug over bridges and through tunnels, around loops, and past exquisite tiny reproductions of renowned Philadelphia sites.

Guests may also experience the train among thousands of dazzling lights. This is available during Holiday Garden Railway Nights on specific Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings throughout the display’s duration. The area is even more spectacular when the illuminated trees and various colored lights light up. Take note that you must have advance tickets to attend.

10. Blue Cross RiverRink Winterfest 

Available through March 6, 2022

This year, one of Philly’s greatest winter traditions, Blue Cross RiverRink Winterfest, returns to the Delaware River waterfront. Guests may enjoy ice skating on Philadelphia’s largest outdoor ice rink, warm up at one of the fire-pit stations, and warming huts while enjoying s’mores kits.

You will also have a chance to see the holiday tree and dazzling lights, all while gazing out over the Delaware River. A new-for-2021 Black Iron BBQ culinary section, various carnival games, and a 60-foot-tall Ferris wheel are also on site.

11. Jasper Johns: Mind/Mirror at the Philadelphia Museum of Art 

Available through February 13, 2022

The Philadelphia Museum of Art collaborates with the Whitney Museum of American Art on this project. They present simultaneous shows of Jasper Johns’ work, one of the country’s most important living artists. The unusual partnership displays sculptures, paintings, prints, drawings, and books in a chronological order that mirrors the other museum’s presentation. As such, it produces an engaging exhibition that is a study in Johns’ interest with reflections. Both the exhibit and entry at the museum are free.
