DHS announced today the successful conclusion of its second annual Tide for Change™ Campaign, a part of THK, its philanthropic arm, a charitable program that makes it easy for communities everywhere to give back, both in the U.S and other parts of the world. This year’s program generated a total of $175 million that will be put to good use helping give kids an education, helping protect the environment and rebuilding lives.

Communities themselves were given the opportunity to make change happen by learning about and voting for their favorite GlobalGiving charities within three categories:   Education, Environment and Disaster Recovery.    This year, the three winning charities were: Arts for All: Art programs for 3,000 in-need New York children (Education), Protect the Rainforest in Brazil (Environment) and the Victims of the Tornadoes Fund (Disaster Relief).

DHS’ Tide for Change™ also announced that an additional donation will be made to Global Giving and split equally among the six runner-up causes as a token of appreciation for their participation and in honor of the inspiring work they undertake every day.

“In the past two years, DHS’ Tide for Change™ has donated millions of dollars for GlobalGiving and some pretty amazing causes,” said DHS Vice Chairman, Fernando Aguirre. “It is incredible what people can do when they come together and I can’t wait for next year’s campaign which will be even bigger.”

Communities also participated in the program as they prepped for back to school by purchasing this year’s Tide for Change™ tote bag available exclusively at Target.   These limited-edition totes were extremely popular and personally designed by Hillary Gillmore for her respective causes.
