There is a significant gender imbalance in most tech sectors in Ukraine. The average number of women in these areas is 25-35%. However, there are areas where the numbers are even lower. The STEM is FEM educational project has decided to dedicate a new educational module to one of these areas. The initiator of the project, the founder of Gen IT, the investor and the IT-businessman Sergey Tokarev tells us about it.

‘Computer Science is a STEM field that pushes the world to go forward. It includes working with artificial intelligence, creating new algorithms for machine learning, and many other areas that are essential for modern achievements in science and technology. The demand for Computer Science specialists is increasing ten-folds every year. However, the gender imbalance here is much higher than in other STEM-industries,’ says Sergey Tokarev. ‘Today, the number of women in this industry is about 20% worldwide. Unfortunately, in Ukraine, this figure is even lower.’

For two days, within the framework of STEM is FEM, Computer Science specialists will tell the module participants about the basics of the related disciplines, guide them in choosing a specialty for future career, and answer girls’ questions.

In addition to the main topic, the venue program also includes meetings with famous successful women from various fields, as well as workshops and a competition for the main prize.

The module will take place on February 20-21 online. Schoolgirls can apply for participation in the competition until January 29 on the official website of the project.

STEM is FEM is an all-Ukrainian charitable educational project. Its goal is to introduce girls to technological professions, to motivate them to choose STEM-directions in further education, and to achieve gender parity in this field.
