After two years of sales, the overnight diaper alternative in the form of eco-friendly kids pajamas has replaced 1 million pounds of disposable diapers

With Earth Day coming up on April 22, Peejamas founder, Craig Hammond, will not only be celebrating Mother Earth but also his company’s contribution to her sustainability. After just two years on the market, Peejamas have replaced 16,000,000 disposable diapers, keeping nearly one million pounds of diaper waste out of landfills.

Peejamas are comfy, eco-friendly pajamas for kids. The pajama bottoms act as an alternative to disposable diapers, absorbing urine from kids’ overnight accidents so they don’t soil their sheets. And unlike diapers, which eliminate that wet sensation for kids, Peejamas leave a slight feeling of moisture that incentivizes kids to use the toilet and helps them along their potty training journey.

Peejamas can be reused up to 300 times, saving parents from purchasing overnight disposable diapers — which cost 50% more than regular diapers — or filling up their dumpsters with non-biodegradable diapers that place a heavy burden on the earth.

Hammond first came up with the concept of Peejamas when he was potty training his own child and pondering the way diapers were dramatically increasing his family’s ecological footprint. He knew he needed an alternative to cloth diapers that would work for overnight training.

“With every diaper I was tossing into the garbage can, I was thinking, ‘There has got to be a better way.'”

Hammond debuted Peejamas on Kickstarter where it became the most successful child apparel product to ever launch from the crowd-funding platform.

Hammond attributes that success to his company’s commitment to the environment, which resonates with customers. He said that his company is very excited to have met its goal to reduce diaper waste in a meaningful way by Earth Day 2020.

“Peejamas is extremely proud of the impact we are having on the environment by reducing harmful, carcinogenic waste that is ending up in our landfills,” said Hammond. “Though our contributions are only a fraction of the total waste from disposable diapers, we believe that small contributions by each person — and each company — can ultimately have a great result on benefiting and improving the environment.”

Hammond shared the following statistics about the toll disposable diapers take on the environment:

  • According to the Environmental Protection Agency, 20 billion diapers end up in landfills each year
  • Roughly 7 billion pounds of diaper waste end up in landfills each year
  • 3.4 billion gallons of oil are used each year to produce diapers
  • It takes 500 years for disposable diapers to decompose, and their composition often contains known carcinogens.

Peejamas have been featured by Parents magazine, USA Today, and ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox news. In addition to the U.S., Peejamas are available in New Zealand and Australia. To learn more about Peejamas, visit www.Peejamas.com.
