A couple of years ago, Peejamas were simply an idea in Craig Hammond’s head. He knew that his child needed a better solution for nighttime potty training and developed absorbent, overnight pajamas. After just two years, Peejamas have been awarded a U.S. patent.
Peejamas are soft and stylish pajamas for kids made from an absorbent blend of cotton and bamboo. The bottoms serve as an alternative to bed wetting products. Peejamas will reliably absorb 10 ounces of urine after nighttime accidents but also leave a slight wet sensation so that kids know to get up and use the potty. And unlike disposable nighttime diapers, Peejamas are reusable.
Hammond used Kickstarter to fund his company, and soon Peejamas became the most successful child apparel product ever launched on the crowd-sourced fundraising website.
Hammond said that he has found the U.S. market to be very receptive to Peejamas as many people are looking for an alternative to bedwetting diapers.
“It is common for parents to pay over $2,000 for diapers during their child’s potty-training journey, and they are eager for a lower-cost alternative,” said Hammond. “Another problem is that diapers occupy a large percentage of landfills and degrade very slowly. Peejamas have been enthusiastically supported by tens of thousands of people who are looking for a more eco-friendly and child-friendly option to disposables.”
Peejamas can be reused up to 300 times, saving parents from having to buy pricey overnight diapers or fill up their trash cans with products that hurt the environment.
Hammond said that Peejamas passed through the patent process quicker than expected.
“Patent reviews can be very rigorous and take a long time, but our patent was granted in less than two years. That just further reinforces the innovative design and intent of Peejamas.”
He said that the patent will not only protect the product’s design but will also allow the company to share their intellectual property around the world.
In addition to the U.S., Peejamas are available in New Zealand and Australia, and Hammond has plans to take Peejamas to other international markets.
