Christopher Ford and Andrew Nicora, Co-Founders at Stitches ‘n Dishes, a popular street food blog in California have sponsored the first annual Foods4Thought.org Food Truck Food Festival, and will hold a Top Street Chef competition to be held at the Western Gateway Park in Penn Valley, CA on June 30, 2012.

Ford and Nicora, Food Network’s, “Eat St” media correspondents, will film the Food Truck Food Festival for a story to be featured on the Food Network’s, “Eat St” blog in August. The two co-founders will produce and direct the video for the Stitches ‘n Dishes YouTube channel to be embedded in the “Eat St” blog story, and will feature the food festival from the vendors’ perspective, as well as the progress and final tally of the votes.

“I love the idea of holding a chef competition at the Food Truck Food Festival,” said Patti Smith, founder at Foods4Thought. “Award winning, PitPros will be performing cooking demonstrations during the event, so it seems appropriate to have something of a cook-off among the chefs.”

Each attendee will be given three voting tickets upon entry to the food festival. Throughout the day, they can drop one or all of the tickets into jars located at each of the food trucks or food stands. Volunteers will tally the votes at 4:30 p.m., and Smith and Ford will announce the top three winners.

The first place winner will receive the title of “Top Street Chef,” as well as a plaque, a “Top Street Chef” apron, and a $1,000 cash prize. The second place winner will receive a certificate of recognition, and a $500 cash prize. The third place winner will receive a $250 cash prize, and “a pat on the back,” Smith said, laughingly.

Immediately following vote tallying, tickets will be drawn from the top three winners’ voting jars, and prizes awarded to attendees who voted. An Apple iPad 2 will be awarded from the first place winner’s jar, an Apple iPod Touch from the second place winner’s jar, and a Kindle Fire from the third place winner’s jar.

Ford will interview the Top Street Chef on video for inclusion in the story for “Eat St.”

Costs for County health permits, land usage fees, utilities, prizes and amenities for the event have been funded by a private loan from Smith, as well as funds and services from Stitches ‘n Dishes and Sierra Nevada. Additional raffle prizes were donated by local merchants. Stitches ‘n Dishes formed an online fundraiser to help reach the organizer’s $25,000 goal. Students of the Nevada Union High School Agricultural Department will operate a popcorn stand and provide volunteer resources during the Food Truck Food Festival.

The organizer will accept donations of any size, and is providing rewards at the $100, $250, $500 and $1,000 levels.

Stitches ‘n Dishes designed a product line around Food4Thought.org’s mission and ethics, including the Top Street Chef apron, and is selling water bottles, T-Shirts, hoodies, tanks, messenger and reusable grocery bags, puzzles and baby clothes, and more to raise funds for the Nevada Union High School Agricultural Department.

Part of Stitches ‘n Dishes’ $10,000 sponsorship will be used to sponsor the first annual “Top Street Chef” competition, in which attendees will vote for the top three street food vendors.
