The 25th to 29th November was National Family Dispute Resolution Week. An event organised by Resolution, a national group of specialist family lawyers, as well as other member organisations of the Family Mediation Council who have joined forces to help support Dispute Resolution Week. Here at The Family Law Company by Hartnell Chanot we fully support efforts to raise further awareness of these valuable practices.

The objective of the week long series of events was designed to increase public awareness of the benefits of mediation along with collaborative law in order to resolve family disputes. This type of service is aimed at offering an alternative to attending formal court proceedings, reducing costs and most importantly, when children are involved, safeguarding their needs first and foremost.
A new survey has revealed that, the majority of Britons believe that putting the child’s interests first and avoiding conflict are the top factors to consider when going through a divorce.
78% of people said that putting children’s interests first would always be the consideration they put first or second in a divorce, with 53% claiming they would prioritise making a divorce as conflict-free as possible.
Despite these high survey outcomes, more than 81% of respondents believe that the children in cases end up being the main casualties of divorce, and 40% believe that divorces can never be without conflict. Surprisingly, in the current financial climate, money and assets were not seen as principally important. A mere 1% considered financial dominance over their partner would be the most important.*
