Bath International Music Festival offers visitors the chance to experience one of the major festival highlights of the year, showcasing a wide selection of musical talent

The city of Bath is highly regarded and well known for being a centre for the arts in the region. This month, anyone visiting the South West’s premier spa city and staying in one of the hotels in Bath during the end of May and early June will see that there is a very special annual music event taking place – the Bath International Music Festival.

The Bath International Music Festival offers both residents and visitors the chance to experience one of the major festival highlights of the year. Stretching from 30 May – 10 June, it will be showcasing a selection of musical talent from near and far at a whole host of venues around the spa city. Originally inaugurated back in 1948, the International Music Festival in Bath has grown into an event of both national and international significance and has earned itself a fine reputation.

Throughout the festival period, anyone visiting will be treated to a wide and varied mix of music from a range of genres, including classical, contemporary, world, electronica, international jazz and folk, with many of the events staged being free-to-the-public.

The artist line-up for 2012 will feature Elisabeth Leonskaja, The Escher String Quartet, Adriano Adewale, Valeriy Sokolov & Evgeniy Isotov, Benjamin Grosvenor, the Bath Philharmonia, Courtney Pine, the Tord Gustavsen Ensemble, Ashok Klouda, the Brighton Early Music Festival Renaissance Players, John Myerscough, Reinis Zarinš, Ruth Jenkin and Bart Lafollette, plus many more.

This fantastic festival kicks off with an opening night gala opera, the UK premiere of Vivaldi’s magical and rarely performed ‘L’Olimpiade’. This beautiful show will have a range of international opera singers performing in it, who will be accompanied by a19-strong Baroque ensemble and the award-winning company ‘La Serenissima’, the world’s foremost Vivaldi experts.
