A continued rise in demand for solar panels ensured that 2012 started strongly for the solar power industry in the UK and around the world. Analysis of the Bloomberg Global Leaders Solar Index showed that stocks in solar-based companies have risen 17 per cent in total so far this year. Experts have attributed the encouraging figures to more installations than expected in the UK and Germany, along with China’s plans to double its solar capacity in 2012.

Germany, the world’s biggest producer of the alternative energy, completed installation of an incredible 3 gigawatts of solar equipment in December alone, contributing towards an increased capacity of 7.5 gigawatts for 2011 in total. In terms of proportionate increases in installations of solar PV systems and other solar products, however, it was the UK which fared best last year. The last twelve months saw 761.9 megawatts of systems set up by companies like Solar Advanced Systems, which is over ten times more than was seen in 2010 and comfortably surpassed official government forecasts.

The increased demand, which is expected to continue throughout 2012, has also led to an increase in the price of polysilicon, the primary component of most solar cells. With this acting as a further investment in the industry, analysts believe that stocks are set to build on their good start to the year.

Energy regulator Ofgem, meanwhile, has also revealed that an incredible 95 per cent of the new systems were home installation projects. This reflects the public’s ever-expanding appetite for harnessing renewable energy forms in an age of soaring utility bills. Additionally, business leaders in the UK have been keen to point out that 25,000 jobs in the industry have been safeguarded by the fact that the process of installing solar systems is now more than twice as cheap as it was than when subsidies were first introduced. All of these indicators suggest another great year to come for Solar Advanced Systems.

About Solar Advanced Systems:

At Solar Advanced Systems, we provide cost effective solar PV systems that maximise this powerful and free source of energy, reducing your costs and helping the planet at the same time.
Solar PV is a renewable energy system which uses solar PV panels to convert sunlight into electricity. The PV cells consist of thin layers of a semi-conducting material, usually silicon, which generates an electric charge when exposed to daylight (rather than heat); the greater the intensity of the light, the greater the flow of electricity.
