Smythen Farm adapts to become successful holiday business

At Smythen Farm times have changed a lot over the years.

There was a time when Smythen Farm didn’t consist of Exmoor holiday cottages, but was a working farm set in the rolling hills above Woolacombe.

Sheep grazed the land and cattle came in each morning to be milked.

But as time wore on farming paid less and less and the owners were forced to look at how they could make their land and buildings pay.

Which is why Smythen Farm now welcomes couples and families in their hundreds every year, to stay in holiday cottages and enjoy a slice of coastal country life.

Part of the Smythen Farm experience is to get close to nature and see a small slice of how life used to be on the farm, since several animals remain on Smythen Farm’s 14 acres. With children able to enjoy pony rides, dogs allowed to run free and all visitors able to get up close with other animals Smythen Farm provides people with an authentic view of farm life.

Here at Smythen Farm we’re proud of our roots, but also proud of the way we’ve adapted.
