The spellbinding production, which has been playing without a break at the Apollo Victoria for around six-and-a-half years, is a modern stage phenomenon, and is now already the 16th longest-running performance of its kind to have featured on the West End; it’s therefore no surprise that the novel adaptation has reached this amazing audience numbers milestone in such a relatively short space of time, and there is no sign of its run coming to an end anytime soon.
Wicked has picked up a host of awards for its productions on both sides of the Atlantic since 2006, including the coveted Most Popular Show gong at the prestigious Laurence Olivier Awards in 2010, as voted for by the theatre-going public themselves. Cast members and the production team may soon be celebrating yet another accolade, too, with the recent announcement that Wicked is in the running for the popular BBC Radio 2 Audience Award, with the winner due to be announced on April 28th.
