Politico reporter recounts Obama’s inspiring words after amputation
Chicago, IL (PRUnderground) May 31st, 2014
Politico’s chief political columnist and Hall of Fame reporter Roger Simon opens up to Rivet Radio’s Charlie Meyerson in the latest edition of Panorama, Rivet’s exclusive long-form interview show.
Simon, whose career as political reporter dates back to the bicentennial and who memorably covered President Clinton’s Monica Lewinsky scandal for the Chicago Tribune, shares the story of his near-fatal blood infection and subsequent double amputation in 2009.
In this episode of Panorama, which goes live on the Rivet mobile app for iOS devices today, Simon recounts the Oval Office interview President Obama granted him after his surgery.
“President Obama said to me, ‘The next time I see you at the White House, you’ll be walking.’ … And I was,” Simon said. “It didn’t make me take it any easier on him, but it was an emotional moment.”
